After Schoolers

As well as providing school age children with challenging and creative activities in the summer months, we invite your older child to participate in our program during the school year.

Children are welcome to have breakfast with us, have some free time to enjoy a board game, interact with friends or simply prepare for their day.

Students in the local school system will board the bus here and return in the afternoon for snack and the “HOMEWORK CLUB”. As a rule, we are here as facilitators, supporters and resource specialists, allowing the child to begin their work on their own, and wait for their requests for assistance. All homework is checked by an adult, before a child is able to leave the area and enjoy free time. Sometimes we will ask an older child to help another child, as we feel this helps with relationship building by teaching cooperation, patience and conflict resolution.

We try to schedule activities that are more geared for school age children, which include outdoor play, arts and crafts, science experiments, and reading. We also strongly believe that school age children must be involved with the younger children in the program as role models by helping when they see a child having a difficult time with a toy or project. Simply helping a younger child put their boots on to go out to play, or assisting with a difficult puzzle, can make both children feel proud of their accomplishment!

For working parents, our program allows older children to be here for the entire day, when school is cancelled due to weather, school holidays and of course vacation breaks.
